We got a chance to participate in an exciting event we co-produced as part of Big Data World conference in Singapore and we came away impressed, optimistic, enlightened, and more. First and foremost, we were there representing both Meiro our She Loves Data community project.  She Loves Data is all about getting women into tech and empowering those who are already there - and this was the perfect venue for both. The event saw staggering 16,000 visitors and even thanks to our participation, saw the growth of female attendees by 100% compared to last year. This is fantastic news for the diversity in our industry we are working for.

“How we manage and leverage data will shape the way we do business across industries. Women should position themselves in the data debate if they want to join the strategic discussion.” Katarina Uherova Hasbani - Founder, Enrupt

Here's a rundown of the sessions we put together for our track.

I was moderating and participating in several panels with some incredible female leaders from our industry from companies like Visa, DBS, Citi, or PwC. and insights and lessons shared by these ladies were incredibly valuable for the audience. Another very well received was a bit more technical presentation by our CTO V, who delivered his talk on 10 tips on how to do data engineering smart. See his presentation here and share it!

"Inherent biases and inequalities in data mean we need to have more women leading in this space. And I see so much enthusiastic young talent around. Please stay curious, follow your passion, and we’ll do this together in style." Meggy Chung - Head of Data Services, Citi

A few takeaways:

Asia and Oceania are advancing quickly with very advanced marketing and sales technologies. A few years ago, there was a long way to go for businesses in the region dealing with things far less-sophisticated than their peers in the US and Europe, but the gap is closing fast. WOMEN! We saw so many women leading sessions, leading demos, leading companies all around the conference - and we love it! Are you a woman in tech? Join our community on LinkedIn and Facebook. The business side. We feel pretty good about being in the CDP business. We had a lot of great meetings, gave a couple of presentations, and came away feeling like marketers are hungry to use the data they have and use it well. Personalization. To the last point, the talk around personalization is getting serious. Marketers understand better than ever the sorts of data their companies have and how valuable it can be. Now, the issues are with data quality and the end-user activation piece. There are plenty of data-unification companies who are good at what they do, but there's still a wall at the last mile and it matters. There's a lot more to come. If you're hosting an event about all things data, let us know. If you're a woman in the tech world, reach out! In the meantime, here are some more photo highlights from around social from the event.

"Without diversity, we will not be able to get the best possible results. That’s why it’s important to have more and more women stepping up the career ladder. With SheLovesData we do our best to support them on their journey." Jana Marle-Zizkova - CEO, Meiro.io
